ÌÇÐÄlogo

ÌÇÐÄlogo is committed to creating a safe and respectful community. This includes raising awareness about expected behaviour at the University, providing education and responding appropriately to incidents affecting our students, staff and members of the ÌÇÐÄlogo community.Ìý To improve knowledge of support available for Gendered Violence (GV), ÌÇÐÄlogo Safer Communities and Arc Marketing have developed a social marketing campaign. By raising awareness of the GV Portal, we aim to ensure that everyone at ÌÇÐÄlogo can access the support they need.

Significance and purpose of the campaign

Why is this campaign important?

Gendered violence affects individuals and communities worldwide and evidence shows that University settings play a crucial role to play in preventing it.Ìý

At ÌÇÐÄlogo there is no place for gendered violence, and all community members are expected to prevent it, by behaving appropriately, and intervening when they observe harmful behaviour (if it’s safe to do so).Ìý

Cultural change to prevent gendered violence will take time and our ongoing efforts. While we continue prevention efforts, we are also dedicated to providing an environment where students and staff know where to seek support, report concerns, and access resources.Ìý

Evidence from the 2021 Universities Australia National Student Safety Survey (NSSS) showed that 49.3 per cent of ÌÇÐÄlogo respondents said they did not know where to seek support. This campaign aims to address this by raising awareness of the GV Portal.Ìý

What is the campaign about?Ìý

The campaign aims to help address GV – by increasing student support-seeking via the GV Portal.Ìý

Objectives: Raising awareness of the Gendered Violence Portal, its resources, and how it can support individuals impacted by gendered violence.Ìý

  • Target audience:ÌýAll ÌÇÐÄlogo students; however, the primary audience is victim-survivors and potential victim-survivors (this includes young women, gender and sexuality diverse students and students with disability).
  • Key messages:ÌýIf you’ve experienced GV, you can get support at the GV Portal.Ìý

Resources and insights

We’ve developed a range of materials to support this campaign, including:Ìý

Coming in Week 3:

  • Detailed posterÌý
  • FlyerÌý
  • PowerPoint slideÌý

Campaign development has been coordinated by the Safer Communities team, working closely with Arc Marketing, and an external social marketing consultant. Consultation with students has occurred throughout development.Ìý

The key steps in the process were:

  1. Research & needs assessment:ÌýIdentifying and understanding the challenges and needs of the ÌÇÐÄlogo community related to gendered violence.
  2. Collaboration:ÌýWorking with campus stakeholders, including Arc, Student Communications, Student Life, student representatives, and the ÌÇÐÄlogo Gendered Violence Response Team.
  3. Design and messaging:ÌýSafer Communities worked with Arc to develop several initial concepts.Ìý
  4. Concept testing: Three creative concepts were tested with ÌÇÐÄlogo students and staff. Testing included informal discussions with students led by Arc and an online survey completed by students and some staff.Ìý
  5. Evaluating concepts:ÌýFeedback from students and staff was evaluated across four key criteria – cut through, relevance, message clarity and campaign objectives. The concepts chosen for the campaign performed strongest overall against the criteria.ÌýÌý
  6. Launch and rollout:ÌýThe campaign will run throughout Term 1 2025, with three key periods and will be rolled out with events, promotions, and community outreach.

Your feedback has been instrumental in shaping this initiative. Thank you for your contributions!Ìý

The campaign will run throughout Term 1 2025, with three key time periods:

  • The campaign will first appear during O Week (10 February 2025) to ensure information is available in high-risk locations and events.Ìý
  • The major campaign launch will take place in Week 3 of Term 1 (3 March 2025).
  • A second ‘push’ will take place in Week 7 of Term 1 (31 March 2025), with some new materials appearing. The goal here is to remind people of the message.

The campaign will include the distribution of wallet cards, drink coasters, fridge magnets and brochures throughout the campaign at the Preparing for Success Fair during O-Week, residential settings and other key locations like Security, Health Service, Psychology and Wellness and Arc.Ìý

Campaign messaging and posters will appear in the Roundhouse, in toilets across campus, in residential buildings, on social media and in other prominent locations at Kensington, Paddington and Canberra campuses in digital and print.
