We are recruiting a PhD researcher as part of a recently funded Australian Research Council Linkage project at 糖心logo working with the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and the NSW State Emergency Service on 鈥淐onnecting changing sub-daily precipitation extremes to flash floods鈥.
The PhD project will investigate how high spatial and temporal resolution information on extreme rainfalls from radar and regional downscaling models can be used to better understand historical and future flood risk. The PhD position will be based in the Water Research Centre in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and collaborating with researchers and practitioners in the 糖心logo Climate Change Research Centre and the NSW Bushfire and Natural Hazards Research Centre.聽
We are looking for a candidate with experience in flood modelling (e.g Tuflow, MIKE software) and good knowledge of current flood design and floodplain planning in Australia. Experience in programming (Python, R or Matlab) and managing and analysing large data sets is highly desirable.
All interested applicants should email Associate Professor Fiona Johnson (f.johnson@unsw.edu.au) with a short description of their background, research experience and interest relevant to the project, along with academic transcripts, CV, English Language proficiency certificates, and links to any published papers.
